Its not a "phenomena" most people know about. Mostly just mages, who have the ability to summon us.

[Good old mages, keeping the summoning secrets within the family.]

Mmm, perhaps it does. But some see it as an accomplishment in and of itself. Typically, what we are summoned for is to fight in a Grail War. The Grail is a magical artifact that can grant any wish...and most Servants would gladly fight to have their wishes granted in their second life.

Aha, I apologize. I was going to explain. The mages get their wishes granted as well. So, its a symbiotic relationship, you see. Mages help Servants, Servants help mages, both get what they want.

[Well...in most cases.]
