I ate a devil fruit. It's this mystical fruit that transforms whoever eats it into what it stands for. I ate a fruit that gave me the ability to have control of everything within a certain area—a "room".

Though typically only one fruit can be eaten by a single person. If someone eats two devil fruits they'll die.

Not exactly making it easier for bodies to adapt to the fruit but making fake ones. Artificial devil fruits that can be made to embody whatever it is that they want.
The person running the organization has become quite powerful and there are plenty of people who want a cut of the profits. Just as well, the world government isn't bending over backwards to deal with pirate with an army of devil fruit users.
